Recycling Quickly Gains Momentum in Sharjah

Tactical Connections Helps Bee'ah Reach Out to the Public with Environmental Education and Programs

Toronto, ON, September 24/2007/ -- Bee'ah, The Sharjah Environment Company LLC., is pleased to announce the rapid adoption and momentum for its pilot recycling programs in the Emirate of Sharjah. The company is well into its second phase of solution implementation and is set to provide an additional 5,000 blue bins, which will be distributed to all municipal office-buildings by October. School educational programs have begun to be rolled out, and additional 3-stream recycling bins are being installed throughout the city.

The pilot programs were designed to educate citizens on the benefits of recycling and the processes of sorting waste. In addition to the blue bins, Toronto’s Tactical Connections has facilitated another purchase of 3-Stream sorting bins through a local recycling product provider. The bins are currently being set up along the main Buhairah Corniche road, as well as in and around the city's municipal buildings.

"The immediate feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. It is clear that the people of Sharjah are excited and are ready to start recycling", said Mr. Brad Kerr, COO of Tactical Connections. "Our goal was to help Bee'ah introduce recycling gradually, starting with the first R — Reduction. And the citizens are rapidly internalizing the message".

Bee'ah's objective is to introduce recycling by combining public-wide education with specific recycling programs or initiatives. This demonstrates to individuals why they should participate and gives them the opportunity to put that into practice.

For example, clear recycling bins (based on the same model as the outdoor 3-stream bins installed along the Corniche) are being distributed to schools. These clear bins not only educate children on how to recycling, but they also make it fun for children to recycle.

Bee'ah is also focusing its efforts on educating citizens through its website, which is currently in its second phase of development.

"Rather than printing brochures and pamphlets — which goes against the environmental mandate of Bee’ah — we are helping to raise awareness in the community and educate the population through a robust website that delivers targeted information, research, feedback and current events to each of the different groups of citizens", said Mr. Samer Kamal, CEO of Tactical Connections.
